It is with overwhelming sadness that TierraCast has made the difficult decision
to close our doors by the end of this year. As a manufacturer we have faced
increasing challenges, including compliance and regulation demands, rising
costs, supply chain issues, changes in the market, overseas competition, and
declining sales. Over time these factors have proven to be insurmountable.
During our 45 years TierraCast grew from a single jeweler’s bench to a business
that, at its peak, employed 49 people. From the very beginning, the business
has consistently held three strong values; respect for its employees, honesty
in business, and quality of product. The loyalty of our customers, commitment
of our employees, and strength and support of our vendors and trade partners
have enabled the business to thrive for most of its life. We can only imagine
the effect that our impending closure will have on people who have supported
and counted on us all these years. For that we are truly sorry and deeply
regret the need to have made this decision.
TierraCast has been a proud US manufacturer for 45 years. We have loved being
part of the jewelry making industry, and it has been an honor to serve you.
With our deepest gratitude,
Steve, Alan, and the TierraCast Team

Embrace the intrinsic beauty and simplicity of natural artisan pewter.
TierraCast has been creating
and manufacturing original pewter designs in our shop in Santa Rosa, California
for 45 years. Throughout that time we have developed a natural unplated pewter
finish of distinctive beauty and durability that was showcased in our extremely
popular Dulce Vida line.
With La Pura Vida we are deepening our dedication to this beautiful, enduring
and more environmentally friendly finish. The entire process is done in house
by us, and its natural beauty combined with a smaller carbon footprint make it
an exceptional option.

We love this return to our roots, and that the manufacturing process is a little bit kinder to the environment. Read on for a little "history of pewter".
Yours in jewelry making adventure,
We've been celebrating National Craft Month, exploring different crafty jewelry making techniques in our live demos, AND exploring what Team TierraCast folks like to do with their personal create time. See below for some highlights!
Kierston, Product
Development Manager
Kierston is extremely crafty! As you can see below she does not limit herself
to a single creative outlet. She likes to embroider and has recently become
obsessed with sewing. But, her fave might be passing creative mojo on to her
niece, shown here with a piñata they made together.
Sarah, General
Manager
Sarah recently returned from an adventure in Norway, where she spent two weeks
chasing the Northern Lights and knitting with a group of like-minded crafters.
About her images - "I’m making headbands to practice Norwegian style knit
and purl which I learned on my recent trip to Norway! That beautiful yarn I
bought during a tour of the Hillesvag Wool Mill. The cute little crochet flower is my first!"
Jeff, Maintenance Technician
That
title is an understatement if ever there was one. Pretty much, if the shop
needs something, Jeff can build it. This works in his home life, too. Shown
below are a gate he built for his deck (to keep constant companion Yoda
contained) and a puzzle he made just for the fun of it. About these
projects - "I used remnants of ½” and ¾” conduit and MIG welded
it. I wanted it to reflect the design of the deck I built. The puzzle is made
of 1/8” wire rod with welded ends. The trick is to remove the heart."
Dawn, Financial
Administrator
Dawn's handicraft approach is simple - "all seed beads, all the
time!" Below is the gorgeous Christmas stocking name tag she beaded for
her daughter, Camryn, and one of her fave creations - a Cellini spiral necklace
focal, with rope components that were beaded by Camryn. And, more seed bead
projects.
Rob, Production Lead
During the early days of Covid, Rob and his family started creating cheerful
painted and stickered rocks and distributing them around the county (and
beyond*). In Rob's words, "We painted rocks to bring a smile to people's
day." When a rock was found by someone they would post it on the Rob
Rocks Facebook page. *The lower left image shows one placed and found at Pope
Beach in Lake Tahoe!
Tracy, Jewelry Design & Marketing
These days, if she's crafting at home it's probably a sewing project. Currently
at the machine is matching pajama pants for her son and daughter-in-law, an
only-slightly-late Christmas gift. Oh yeah, sometimes there are pies.
Jackson, Packaging
Jackson works mostly in Packaging, but also spends time in Product Development
helping Kierston with metal fabrication tasks. She recently guided him on an
etching project of his band's logo that he affixed to his guitar. So.
Cool!
Ok, that was a lot of fun, but we can't let you go without directing you towards some resources from the blog section of our website that focus on more crafty jewelry techniques like resin, polymer clay, paints and fiber arts. There is still time to try something new as we wrap up National Craft Month 2023. Enjoy!

Blog: Adding Color to TierraCast Metal
Macramé is an ancient, crafty and versatile medium. Earliest known examples of this fiber art form have been found in the Middle East dating to the 13th century, with some argument for even older existence from pictorial history of Assyria and Babylon. Sailors are credited with being among the first to develop knotting techniques as a hobby, and more recent macramé trends have shown up in Victorian England and, of course, here in the states in the 60's and 70's! Of course, we like it because it's awesome for jewelry.
Many of our jewelry making components work great with macramé, including our buttons, links and charms. We have a few great projects in our archives (see below), and demo video of some various knotting techniques on YouTube, with guest Sandra Younger, inventor of the Knotty Do-it-All board!
One of the most basic knots for jewelry making is the square macramé knot. We did a demo video for that a few years ago and you can find that on our YouTube channel.
We hope you enjoy playing with these macramé techniques. Knotting is relaxing and fun, and on-trend in the DIY and jewelry making worlds!

Earring Posts –
The elegant Reina motif is inspired by the guiding light of the stars, and
plays nicely with floral designs. It is just the right size and design to
compliment any project. As with all our post designs, the
Reina Earring post features a
hypoallergenic Titanium post for a safe and comfortable fit.
Charms,
Button and Pendants
– This beautiful and symbolic group of parts reflects
many faiths and meanings. The charms and button speak to unity (Halo Celtic Cross), guidance (Crescent Moon & Star), life (Chai), love & devotion
(Sacred Heart, in both
charm and button) while the pendants scale up for protection (St. Christopher),
peace (
Peace Dove Pendant) and salvation (Crucifix). They come in our classic
gold and silver antique plate with the Peace Dove also offered in copper.
Links– The Reina and the Small Infinity links are the perfect size to use with either petite or larger designs. Simply decide whether you want a star floral motif or an expression of the infinite. The Cathedral 5-1 link is inspired by the shape of stained glass windows and is a beautiful way to create chandelier or multi-strand pieces. The Reina and Cathedral are available in three finishes and the Infinity is available in our classic gold and silver antique plate.
Clasp– Our Cathedral clasp also embodies ancient stained glass windows and strikes that perfect size and motif to use with a variety of designs. Available in three finish options.

We have a lot of bezels! Some were made to use as picture frames, some were sized specifically for crystal fancy stones and flatbacks, and some - like our most recent Woodland bezels - are perfectly sized for gemstone cabochons. But all of them also make wonderful mini-canvases for mixed media creations!
SEE OUR WIDE VARIETY OF BEZELS HERE.
We recently did a live demo with our new Woodland bezels and different types of polymer clay. We tried both liquid and traditional clays, and had a good time blending the liquid colors together (mesmerizing!), creating impressions and mixing clay colors for a faux gemstone look.
On a later demo we continued to be inspired by our beautiful new bezels. This time we used different materials with adhesives and resins - including images, glass glitter and cabochons. We love these little creative canvases!
Because there are so many mixed media adhesives, resins and techniques out there we put together a little tip sheet. DOWNLOAD THE RESINS & GLUES TIP SHEET HERE. Other helpful tips when using images and resins:
Did you know that you can also use our open ring components as mixed media frames? Here's a video demoing our technique for creating “Story Rings” with TierraCast rings, UV resin, craft paper, and inclusions. This process results in truly personalized charms and pendants for unique jewelry and craft projects. Choose imagery to fit your theme.
We hope you enjoy playing with these ideas using mixed media techniques. We have certainly had fun with them over the years. The possibilities are endless!
